Crowdfunded MMO, Crowfall, gets major upgrade to character customization and graphics engine

Crowfall

The massively multiplayer online game, 'Crowfall' has got a major upgrade to the game’s character customization system and an overhaul of the graphics and lighting engine. ArtCraft Entertainment Inc., the developer of the game, also announced that they will soon be adding races and classes to the character system. The company is upgrading Crowfall’s graphics engine with direct assistance from the Unity Spotlight team.

ArtCraft has released two new videos which deal with the changes made. The first one that deals with the race and class system can be seen here:

“When we started this project, we decided to use archetypes instead of allowing players to separately choose a RACE and a CLASS for each character,” said J. Todd Coleman, Artcraft CEO and Chief Creative Officer. “This limitation was mostly driven by content cost, and thanks to our fundraising efforts, we can now afford to build the vision we originally wanted. This will give our players an incredible amount of flexibility to create the unique characters that they want to play.”
"We have spent the last few months overhauling our lighting system," explained Gordon Walton, President and Executive Producer at ArtCraft. "And the results speak for themselves. I have no doubt that our current backers, and our future players, will be delighted by this significant leap forward."

Crowfall differs from standard MMOs in that each server represents a single “campaign world" with a unique map, unique rules, and a limited lifespan. A campaign will last only a few months before one guild or alliance conquers the map – at which point the characters collect the spoils of war and move on to the next campaign.

Crowfall is currently in pre-alpha testing and open to early access backers. With 40,000 backers and more than $12 million in total project funding, Crowfall is considered one of the most anticipated MMOs scheduled to launch in 2017.
